This list is compiled from hundreds of nominations submitted by lawyers in California, with the editors selecting nominees based on the impact of their work in intellectual property.

“Kang has mastered the art of high tech and patent law,” the publication noted, highlighting his work representing Korean television manufacturer LG Electronics Inc. in a multi-patent infringement suit it filed against a Chinese competitor; and Walmart Inc., CVS Pharmacy Inc., Ulta Beauty Inc. and KISS Products Inc. in a multi-patent case over artificial eyelashes. In the latter, Kang’s team defeated one patent on summary determination prior to trial and a trial on the remaining patent was held in July 2021, leading to a no violation finding. Kang also made the ‘Top Intellectual Property Lawyers’ list in 2021 and 2016.

Daily Journal noted Guske’s work on high-profile high-stakes litigation and mentioned her work representing Qualcomm Inc. against patent infringement claims over 5G wireless transceiver technology and California-based tracking device maker Tile against patent infringement claims in a one-person Canadian company’s first patent suit. She was also included on the list in 2019.

The publication also highlighted Williams’ 21-plus year tenure at Baker Botts and how he successfully argued an appeal on behalf of client Sling TV LLC in a patent fight with patent assertion over Sling’s technology related to user interface data feeds. This was a notable win, the publication noted, “because Federal Circuit panels are generally deferential to PTAB decisions, but in this case the judges vacated a PTAB ruling and sent the case back, calling the PTAB analysis ‘difficult to understand.’” This is the sixth consecutive year that Williams has been included on the list.
