HOUSTON, January 3, 2024 - Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that partner Macey Reasoner Stokes has been appointed by the Texas Supreme Court to its prestigious Supreme Court Advisory Committee (SCAC), for a three-year term.

The Supreme Court Advisory Committee (SCAC), first created in 1940 and periodically reconstituted since then, assists the Supreme Court in the continuing study, review, and development of rules of administration and procedure for Texas courts, taking into consideration the rules of other courts in the United States and proposals for changes from whatever source received. The Committee drafts rules as directed by the Court; solicits, summarizes, and reports to the Court the views of the bar and the public on court rules and procedures; and makes recommendations for change. Members of the Committee are appointed by the Supreme Court, which from time to time determines their number, qualifications, and terms of service.

Ms. Stokes heads the firm's Appellate section, which was ranked Band 1 in Litigation: Appellate - Texas by Chambers USA 2023 and a National "Tier 1" Appellate Practice in the 2024 Edition of Best Lawyers/Best Law Firms. She received the 2022 Gregory S. Coleman Outstanding Appellate Lawyer Award from the Texas Bar Foundation and was named one of the Top Ten Most Influential Texas Appellate Litigators by Business Today 2023 and selected as one of the 2024 Lawdragon 500 Leading Litigators in America. She serves as a Past President and Governor Emeritus of the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit and is a Past President of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society and a Past Chair of the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Texas. Over her 30-year career, she has handled a wide variety of civil appeals and extraordinary proceedings in both state and federal court, with significant experience in appeals for oil and gas and other energy clients. She has frequently provided appellate assistance at trial in complex, high-stakes litigation.
