Overview

An associate in the firm's Washington D.C. Litigation Practice, Adam represents clients in both federal and state courts, with matters ranging from high-stakes commercial litigation to small business disputes. His practice focuses on complex litigation and class-action suits and defense against civil and criminal enforcement actions before the Department of Justice, Environmental Protection Agency, and other federal and state agencies. Mr. Dec also assists clients with internal investigations around regulatory compliance issues involving allegations of price fixing and anti-competitive activity, false claims and government contract issues, mail and wire fraud, and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Clean Air Act, and U.S. securities laws.

Additionally, Mr. Dec has represented clients in criminal cases (both pre- and post-indictment) and on appeal. He also contributes significant time to pro bono work helping to secure post-conviction relief for his clients.

Prior to joining Baker Botts, Mr. Dec served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Royce C. Lamberth of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

During law school, Mr. Dec was the Chief Symposium Editor for The Review of Litigation. He also represented clients before Travis County Probate Court as a student-attorney in The University of Texas School of Law's Mental Health Clinic, and also served as a legal intern in the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

  • Power producer – Defense against class action removed to federal court alleging discharge of coal ash pollution and claims of inverse condemnation
  • International automotive supplier – Defended appeal involving claims against a group of major suppliers and manufacturers in copyright royalty dispute
  • Fortune 500 medical supply company – Defense against criminal investigation by U.S. Attorney's Office relating to sales of restricted pharmaceutical products and related practices
  • Freeman v. Grain Processing Corporation – Defense of corn processing facility against class action toxic tort and contaminated property
  • Caterpillar Inc. – Representing client in a lawsuit alleging the company conspired with a competitor and its own dealers to boycott the distributor of a foreign supplier seeking to enter the United States
  • International oil company – Conducted internal investigations into potential FCPA violations in South America
  • Conducted internal investigations for numerous national and international organizations in response to DOJ subpoenas and whistleblower complaints
  • Represented numerous government contractors in contract disputes and debarment proceedings in various federal venues
  • Represented wrongfully convicted client in West Virginia in post-conviction proceedings
