Cailyn Reilly Knapp is a senior associate in Baker Botts' Litigation group, where she represents clients in a broad range of litigation matters in federal and state courts, with a particular emphasis on complex commercial litigation, white collar defense, and antitrust. As a former law clerk in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Cailyn has significant experience in the "rocket docket." Cailyn's practice also includes corporate internal investigations and defending corporate and individual clients in criminal and civil enforcement matters before the Department of Justice and other federal and state agencies.
Cailyn serves on the board of directors of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, an organization that promotes the welfare, interests, education, and professional development of all attorneys involved in federal law, including federal judges and practitioners from the public and private sectors.
Cailyn also serves on the board of directors of No Stomach for Cancer, a non-profit organization that promotes research, education, and advocacy concerning hereditary diffuse gastric cancer, a condition that has affected Cailyn and her family.
A former college lacrosse player and current youth coach, Cailyn devotes time to learning, writing, and speaking about sports law, specifically concussion regulation at the youth, NCAA, and professional levels. While attending Villanova University School of Law, Cailyn published two articles on the subject in the UCLA Entertainment Law Review and the Jeffrey S. Moorad Sports Law Journal.
Cailyn is conversant in French.
Before joining Baker Botts in November 2015, Cailyn served as a law clerk to the Honorable Anthony J. Trenga and the Honorable John F. Anderson, Magistrate Judge, of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, known nationwide as the "rocket docket," and for its handling of national security cases. Cailyn so enjoyed her clerkships that she returned to Judge Trenga's Chambers from 2020 to 2022 to clerk again, before resuming her practice at Baker Botts in October 2022. In law school, Cailyn interned with the Honorable Thomas L. Ambro of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, the Honorable Lynne A. Sitarski, Magistrate Judge of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the Honorable Charles H. Toliver, IV, of the Delaware Superior Court.
