Laurence's practice focuses on international arbitration and commercial litigation, as well as UK and EU sanctions advice. He has experience working on complex international disputes arising in a range of jurisdictions and sectors. He has advised both states and corporates in proceedings under UNCITRAL, ICSID, ICC, LCIA and CIArb rules, as well as in the English High Court and English Competition Appeal Tribunal.
Prior to joining Baker Botts, Laurence trained at a "Magic Circle" law firm in London, where he also completed a secondment at UBS. Before practising as a solicitor, Laurence worked for four years as a policy adviser to the UK Government and European Commission, focusing on international trade and sanctions.
Laurence is proficient in Russian, and much of his practice concerns disputes and international sanctions issues relating to the Russian-speaking world.
