Overview

Ashwat Rishi is a special counsel in the Intellectual Property Practice of the firm's New York office. Ashwat's practice focuses on patent prosecution, IP counseling, and patent litigation matters for clients ranging in size from emerging companies to large, multinational corporations.

Ashwat advises clients in developing, securing, and managing worldwide utility and design patent portfolios. In particular, Ashwat has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent application in the U.S. and in major markets abroad covering a wide range of technological fields, including mechanical devices, manufacturing equipment and processes, industrial machines, consumer products, and medical devices.

In addition, Ashwat routinely performs patent validity and invalidity analysis, due diligence, acquisition or licensing assessments, and prepares freedom-to-operate and clearance opinions.

Ashwat also represents clients in federal district courts across the country in patent infringement lawsuits. As such, Ashwat's litigation experience includes both oral and written advocacy, and ranges from pre-suit fact and legal investigations, formulating case theory, preparing legal briefs, working with experts, analyzing and assessing prior art, and presenting oral arguments in federal court.

Prior to joining Baker Botts LLP, Ashwat worked at a boutique intellectual property law firm in New York.
