Overview

Kristina Vu is a litigation senior associate in the Houston office of Baker Botts. She has handled a multitude of complex commercial matters in state and federal court, including energy-related matters, securities-related matters, and various tort and contract claims. She has experience with class action lawsuits and multidistrict litigation.

Kristina also has experience advising clients prior to initiation of any litigation. In this advisory role, Kristina has helped clients assess their potential liability exposure and the strength of each parties' claims and defenses. Kristina has also aided in conducting litigation-related due diligence for potential large-scale transactions.

Pro bono work is an important part of Kristina's practice. She has served as the lead attorney on pro bono cases including landlord-tenant disputes and breach of contract disputes. She has also represented clients in asylum and T visa cases. As part of her pro bono practice, Kristina has taken cases to trial, negotiated cases with opposing counsel, and led case management and strategy.

Prior to joining Baker Botts, Kristina worked as a student attorney at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. In this role, she represented her clients at hearings, managed cases, determined legal strategy, and negotiated with opposing counsel. While working at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, Kristina also assisted pro se litigants at a program called "Attorney for the Day" which provided on-the-spot representation to unrepresented tenants in Boston Housing Court on a weekly basis. Additionally, she volunteered at free legal clinics at a local tenants' rights organization, providing legal advice to tenants and homeowners facing foreclosure. Kristina also led the disability benefits practice while working at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.

Kristina is an active member of the Houston legal community. She has served on the Houston Bar Association's Diversity & Inclusion Committee and Community in Schools Committee as well as on the Public Statements Committee and the Gala Committee of the Asian American Bar Association of Houston.

Energy Litigation

  • Arbitration involving approximately 200 title disputes amounting to half a billion dollars worth of claims
  • Defended client against temporary injunction seeking to enjoin the construction of a $2 billion natural gas pipeline
  • Represented clients in disputes over oil and gas lease terms
  • Defended operators in lawsuits asserting breaches of implied and express covenants
  • Provided analysis regarding multiple oil and gas lease disputes, including but not limited to a dispute involving temporary cessation of production doctrine; a dispute over whether a Pugh clause in conjunction with unit designations effected a horizontal severance, a vertical severance, or both; a dispute over "washout" of leaseholder interest; and a dispute over validity of leases and units
  • Defended clients in lawsuits involving Winter Storm Uri
  • Assisted with responding to Attorney Generals’ Civil Investigative Demands

  • Defended clients in class actions involving Section 10(b) of the Exchange Act of 1934 and Rule 10b-5
