Overview

Margaret (Maggie) Welsh is a nationally recognized patent lawyer and co-chair of the firm's Artificial Intelligence Practice Team. As tech rapidly changes our daily lives, it also creates incredible legal challenges. For companies to thrive, they need a seasoned intellectual property attorney who can handle complex and evolving technology issues. To do so, companies increasingly turn to Maggie. Blending an engineering background and extensive experience with patent litigation, patent prosecution, and due diligence, Maggie quickly digs into the weeds while keeping an eye on human interaction and business needs to craft winning strategies.

Maggie brings her passion for emerging technology to her role as a leader of the Artificial Intelligence Practice Team and host of Baker Botts’ podcast, AI Counsel Code. In these roles, she helps companies navigate the complexities of using AI and developing AI technologies. Companies rely on Maggie to spot, analyze, and manage risk, in order to offer practical solutions to business priorities. She also helps clients avoid and navigate litigation by advising on the evolving tech legal landscape and on strategic advancements for a company’s business. IAM 1000 (2024) praised Maggie for her "professionalism, hardwork and ability to identify potential risks for her clients."

In addition to her practice, Maggie serves as the firmwide head of Women In Action, which strives to encourage collaboration and promotion of women in the global workforce and specifically within the legal industry.
