Brandt Thomas Roessler Speaks at the EPA's Pride Month Program
NEW YORK, June 24, 2022 - On June 15, 2022, New York Litigation Senior Associate, Brandt Thomas Roessler, spoke to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as part of its Pride Month programming. Brandt and two other lawyers were invited by the EPA to speak on recent lawsuits challenging states’ actions targeting LGBTQ+ persons, especially young persons. The conversation focused on two states in particular: (1) Florida’s so-called “Don’t Say Gay” law that limits discussion on LGBTQ issues in schools and (2) Texas’s recent expansion of “child abuse” to encompass the provision of medically necessary gender affirming care for transgender adolescents. Brandt highlighted that Baker Botts serves as co-counsel alongside Lambda Legal and the ACLU in two lawsuits challenging Texas’s expansion of “child abuse” to encompass gender affirming care.
More than 200 EPA employees, including lawyers and non-lawyers, attended the program. The event's organizers from the EPA thanked Baker Botts for its pro bono advocacy, particularly with respect to LGBTQ+ issues.
