NEW YORK, February 18, 2025 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, announced today that Sanjay Thapar, a highly regarded finance attorney has joined the firm as a partner in its Corporate Practice based in New York. Sanjay’s arrival enhances Baker Botts’ deep and growing finance practice, particularly in the areas of liability management transactions, private credit, and acquisition financings.

Sanjay specializes in structuring and executing complex domestic and international financing transactions across industries like energy and power, digital assets, manufacturing, and transportation. He has extensive experience with various financing types, including syndicated, direct lender, club transactions, and first and second lien, asset-based, and unitranche facilities. Known for advising non-traditional lenders, financial institutions, hedge funds, private equity firms, and borrowers, Sanjay also has significant cross-border expertise in jurisdictions such as Canada, the EU, Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, the UAE, and the UK.

His work extends beyond traditional financing transactions, as he has played a key role in representing clients in complex liability management transactions, debt restructurings, workouts, and debtor-in-possession and exit financings, offering tailored solutions in challenging, high-stakes situations. Sanjay was previously co-chair of his prior law firm’s leveraged finance practice.
