WASHINGTON, D.C., June 18, 2021 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international law firm, is pleased to announced that Washington, D.C. Litigation partner Andrew George has been awarded the firm’s inaugural Managing Partner’s Pro Bono Award. The award will be given annually to the Baker Botts lawyer who provides particularly exemplary pro bono legal service during the previous year. In recognition of the award, the firm will make a $5,000 donation in Mr. George’s honor to the legal services organization of his choice.

A first-chair trial and appellate litigator, Mr. George devotes substantial time to pro bono work, with a focus on wrongful convictions. He also serves as Chair of the Washington, D.C. office's Pro Bono Committee and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project, having served as lead counsel on numerous wrongful conviction matters.

Most recently – and notably – he led a team that included firm lawyers Jamie Lynn and Adam Dec that secured the exoneration and freedom of Jason Lively, who spent 14 years in prison for an arson and murder he did not commit. Mr. George’s —and the firm’s—success has been profiled in the Washington Post, and CNN is working on a documentary about the case. His leadership on the Jason Lively case also highlights the importance of client partnerships, as his team worked with a team of lawyers from Amazon in the high-profile matter.

Mr. George is also an adjunct professor at Georgetown Law Center, where he teaches a course on wrongful convictions, and he previously taught at George Washington University Law School. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable James C. Cacheris of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
