Overview

Teresa Jones’ practice consists of a wide range of critical environmental issues, including compliance, safety, incident response, litigation, and high-stakes transactional matters. She has experience advising clients on regulatory enforcement actions initiated by state and federal agencies, conducting internal investigations, and general environmental counseling. Teresa also provides guidance in complex transactions, assisting corporate clients with environmental due diligence and advising on litigation and regulatory risks associated with environmental assets.

With nearly a decade of experience across government and the non-profit sectors, Teresa brings a well-rounded perspective to her practice. She has held diverse roles at the White House, U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, the Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA"), and within municipal government. Her work with a wide range of public and private stakeholders -- including elected officials, candidates, donors, grassroots activists, businesses, and non-profits -- equips her to adeptly navigate the broad impacts of environmental law.

While in law school, Teresa externed at the EPA's Office of General Counsel and was recognized as a Business Law Fellow and a Thad Cochran Scholar.

Community Leadership

Teresa led a criminal justice pro bono clinic in Louisiana that helped nearly 200 indigent community members restore their licenses or receive guidance on reinstatement, earning Baker Botts the Koch 2024 Pro Bono Partner of the Year award. She also founded Black Women in Environmental Law ("BWEL"), the first group for Black women attorneys who practice in the environmental and energy law sectors. Since its launch, BWEL has facilitated events with dozens of diverse firm and in-house energy and environmental attorneys, driving efforts to increase diversity in the field.
