Adorys Velazquez and Gavin Villareal to Receive 2022 National Latino Leaders Award

AUSTIN and NEW YORK, June 27, 2022 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international law firm, is pleased to announce that partners Adorys Velazquez and Gavin Villareal will both receive the 2022 National Latino Leaders Award from the Council for Latino Workplace Equity (CLWE), an initiative under the National Diversity Council, at the Seventh Annual National Latino Leadership Conference in September.

The 2022 National Latino Leaders list highlights individuals who have achieved success in their careers while paving the way for other Latinos to advance in the corporate arena. These individuals contribute to creating and promoting a culture where Latino talent is supported and leveraged for organizational success. They demonstrate leadership excellence and high visibility in the Latino community and maintain a record of professional accomplishments.

Velazquez is the Deputy Chair of the New York Corporate Department. She works with clients in the capital markets and mergers and acquisitions arenas, and advises clients in matters related to securities laws compliance and general corporate matters. She works with domestic and international companies, as well as leading international investment banks. In addition, Velazquez has significant experience advising companies in the TMT sector and the energy sector, as well as advising publicly traded master limited partnerships (MLPs) and clients in the international maritime and offshore sectors.

Villareal serves as Partner-in-Charge of Baker Botts’ Austin office and Litigation Chair of the office. He represents clients in a wide variety of complex business-related disputes in state and federal trial and appellate courts, as well as before the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. In 2019, he won a landmark U.S. Supreme Court victory as lead counsel in Food Marketing Institute v. Argus Leader Media. He has held leadership positions in numerous professional and community organizations, including the ABA, Austin Bar Foundation, and the Hispanic Bar Association of Austin. He currently serves on the board of directors for Austin PBS and the Texas Business Hall of Fame, and is a member of the President’s Council of Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
