Overview

Sofia Doudountsaki is based in Brussels and advises on all aspects of EU competition law, including EU and cross-border merger control, abuse of dominance, cartel investigations, and antitrust compliance issues. She has experience on various business sectors, including energy, oil & gas, infrastructure, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, media, and financial services.

Prior to joining Baker Botts, Ms. Doudountsaki worked in the Brussels office of another international law firm and as a Law Clerk (“Référendaire”) at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg.

She speaks English, French and Greek.

  • Represented Halliburton in the EU merger control investigation regarding its planned acquisition of Baker Hughes (Phase II Investigation).
  • Represented Liberty Media Corporation in its acquisition of Formula One, securing merger clearances from competition authorities in the EU and the rest of the world.
  • Represented SI Group in the acquisition of its chemical additives business by Addivant before the European Commission, the FTC, and other national competition authorities.
  • Represented Ingevity in its acquisition of Georgia Pacific before the FTC (2nd Request) and other national competition authorities.
  • Represented Colfax in the sale of its Air and Gas Handling Business to KPS Capital Partners, securing antitrust and foreign investment clearances in twelve jurisdictions.
  • Represented PepsiCo in its Acquisition of BFY Brands before the FTC (2nd Request) and other national competition authorities.
  • Represented AIP in the acquisition of its subsidiary Goss Printing by Possehl, securing merger clearances from the German and Austrian competition authorities.
  • Represented a third party before the European Commission in the proposed rail merger between Siemens and Alstom.
  • Represented a third party in the EU merger control investigation regarding the proposed merger between Deutsche Boerse and London Stock Exchange.
  • Represented major energy, pharmaceutical and chemicals companies in multijurisdictional filings and advised in potential acquisition opportunities.
  • Advised regularly clients on antitrust issues arising from the application of art. 101 and 102 TFEU, including on the EU rules on vertical restraints.
  • Advised on foreign investment screening and represented several clients in foreign investment filings in major jurisdictions.
  • Represented pro bono clients in matters related to immigration and refugee law. Participated in Project Innocence (review of death penalty cases in the U.S.).
  • Represented ALSTOM in its acquisition by General Electric - filings before the European Commission (Phase II merger Investigation).*
  • Represented a major shipping company in a cartel investigation in the vehicles shipping sector which involved parallel investigations in multiple jurisdictions.*
  • Represented a capacitor manufacturer in a cartel investigation in the technology industry.*
  • Advised a major airline on State aid aspects.*
  • Advised the flag carrier airline of Cyprus in rescue and restructuring State aid aspects.*
  • Represented a Swedish citizen before the General Court in an action for annulment against a Commission Decision qualifying the implementation of an arbitral award as unlawful State aid.*
  • Representing the NGO 'Save the Children' in a pro bono matter regarding search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea.*
