Stephanie Kato's legal practice encompasses a range of intellectual property matters, with a focus on patent litigation and patent prosecution.
Stephanie is experienced in counseling clients on strategic patent portfolios and technology development through preparation and prosecution of patent applications, as well as acquisition assessments, due diligence analysis, and freedom-to-operate opinions. She has also assisted clients with patent disputes before U.S. federal district courts, the Federal Circuit, the International Trade Commission, and post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
Stephanie's engineering background allows her to work with clients in a variety of technology fields including in autonomous vehicles, circuit design, control systems, electronics and telecommunications, medical devices, robotics, and software development.
Stephanie is also involved in the firm's pro bono practice, including advocating on behalf of survivors of gender-based violence for Her Justice. She is an active volunteer with a number of Asian American groups in the community.
Prior to her legal career, Stephanie worked as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow at Stanford University. Her research focused on obstacle detection controllers and vision systems for autonomous vehicles. She is an alumna of the California Institute of Technology, Stanford University, and Columbia Law School.
