Bethany Salpietra is an IP lawyer dedicated to helping clients with the full scope of their IP-related matters, including IP litigation, IP preparation and prosecution, and IP transactions. Bethany's practice is predominately technical in nature (patent and trade secrets) and has involved a diverse array of technologies, such as telecommunications, medical devices, semiconductors, electronics, software, and mechanical devices.
Bethany has participated in state, district, and appellate court litigation and has experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants through all phases of litigation. As a result, Bethany has substantial experience in developing strategy and defenses in complex matters, including pretrial discovery (jurisdictional, venue, fact, and expert), infringement and invalidity preparation and analysis, claim construction, summary judgment, and trial.
Bethany also has significant experience counseling both large and small clients regarding their IP-related issues, including those related to pre-suit investigations, IP licensing and acquisition, and IP portfolio management. She strategizes with her clients to develop and cultivate valuable IP assets and, where desired, assists in their monetization.
Ever mindful of the community, Bethany holds leadership roles in local organizations and keeps an active pro-bono docket. She has long been involved in promoting STEAM education for the next generation and leads Baker Botts’ local outreach group that provides pro bono patent services to student (K-12) inventors.
During law school, Bethany interned with The Honorable John D. Love in the Eastern District of Texas and clerked for intellectual property law firms. Bethany also served as a research assistant and teaching assistant, over several semesters, and was active in organizations that provided free legal services to Chicago residents.
