Overview

Erin Hopkins is a member of the firm's Global Projects Practice, in Houston. His practice focuses on guiding clients through complex commercial matters in the energy industry, including the acquisition and divestiture of energy companies and assets and joint venture arrangements. His experience includes structuring and negotiating transactions and investments from foreign and domestic investors in the U.S. energy industry, including upstream and downstream markets.

  • BHP Billiton in its 10.5 billion dollar sale of U.S. shale assets located in the Permian, Eagle Ford and Haynesville plays
  • Public energy company – divestures of domestic oil and gas assets valued at over $3 Billion
  • Murphy Exploration & Production Company – USA in the acquisition of deep water Gulf of Mexico valued at approximately $1.6 Billion
  • Chesapeake Energy Corporation in its $3.977 billion acquisition of WildHorse Resource Development Corporation
  • Privately held corporation – formation of “DrillCo” drilling partnership with private equity fund to develop oil and gas assets in the Permian basin valued at over $1 billion
  • Private equity energy fund – investment in and formation of portfolio companies with aggregate equity commitments of over $1.0 billion
  • Private equity fund – assist with the negotiation of a Joint Development Agreement/DrillCo funding structure
  • Publicly traded company – assist with the negotiation and development of numerous “DrillCo” joint ventures as investor in such ventures
